Functionalization

Functional surfaces, which are surfaces whose properties have been specifically adapted, open up enormous potential for component optimization. Microstructures which can be found in the area of botany or in wildlife are often copied here.

The areas of application are diverse: In addition to changes to wettability or adhesion properties, functional surfaces can also produce effects that reduce friction and abrasion. Cell structures on the surface act as repository for lubricant or can produce certain pressure buildup in the lubricant, similar to hydrodynamic plain bearings. Friction and abrasion can be minimized this way, and the service life of the component increased.
Apart from this kind of functionality, structures are also used that have an optical effect, for the dispersion of light, for example.

We offer:
  • Reduction of friction and abrasion on components subject to heavy loads, using microstructures with tribological properties
  • Alteration of wettability properties of surfaces through structuring
  • An increase in the light absorption of metal surfaces through structuring
  • An increase in the surface area of components for better adhesion
  • Custom functionalization based on your needs
